Collected at the beach last summer, these shells endured winter on the back porch. I considered pitching them, but in a fit of spring cleaning, they got moved out to the yard for a rinse and some time in the sun. When I encountered them this evening, the shells were still warm from the day's heat, spread out on a sand-colored boot tray, with the sunset throwing long shadows over them.
Summer is back!
